Jeremy Renner’s Hopes for a Second Season of Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner has expressed his desire for a second season of Hawkeye, emphasizing that there is still much more to explore with the character. The actor, known for his role as Clint Barton, shared his thoughts during an appearance at the 2025 Florida Supercon, reflecting on his experience with the 2021 Disney+ series and whether he would consider reprising his role.
Renner described the experience of diving deeper into the character as "great" and highlighted the appeal of a more grounded world. He noted that it was "a lot more fun to do and more to explore for the character, which is nice." He also mentioned that he always wanted to continue this kind of work, but the challenges of his recent injury have made it more difficult.
"I always wanted to do more of that stuff, and there's the incident that happened, and I have to get my body in shape to be able to sling arrows again and dive around and do all that stuff, but I'll get there. I'm doing good," he said.
Despite the physical hurdles, Renner remains hopeful that a second season of Hawkeye could happen once he is fully recovered. He emphasized his ongoing relationship with Marvel, stating, “I'll always dance with Marvel. I'll always dance with them for sure when appropriate, when it's rocking.” He added, “I'm happy to do season two of Hawkeye. I love that character. I think there's so much for us to do.”
He also mentioned that discussions about the potential second season have been ongoing. “We waded through many discussions about the shape of that season,” he explained. “It's getting my body right and getting everything right for that. The timing of that will come, and if there's still a need, want, and desire for it, then yeah.”
Controversial Offer and Financial Dispute
Earlier this year, Renner opened up about the discussions surrounding Hawkeye Season 2 and the controversial offer he received. According to Renner, Disney offered him half the salary he earned for the first season. This led to a tense exchange, as he felt the offer was unfair given the additional workload required for the second season.
“I’m like, ‘Well, it's going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” he said during an interview on High Performance. Renner suggested that his reduced pay was a result of his near-fatal accident in 2023.
“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry. Why did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that's why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season?’” he continued. “This is not Marvel. This isn’t not really Disney, it’s just the penny pinchers — the accountants.”
Renner reportedly told Disney to “go fly a kite” after the offer, adding, “So, we didn’t see eye to eye on that, sadly. I still love the character, I’d still love to do it but I had to defend myself.”
A Matter of Fair Compensation
Despite the disagreement, Renner clarified that he did not ask for more money for the second season. Instead, he simply wanted to be paid the same as he was for the first season. He acknowledged that the situation was disheartening but chose to move on, noting that his body might be better off not taking on the role right now.
“It was a little disheartening that it didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But, we’ll see,” he said.
Renner’s comments highlight the challenges of balancing personal passion with professional demands, especially in the wake of a serious injury. His hope for a return to Hawkeye remains, but the path forward will depend on both his recovery and the willingness of the studio to address concerns about fair compensation.
